This 8.2 oz poly-cotton canvas is primed with six coats of primer, but still maintains a canvas-like surface. The Blair Canvas retains a small amount of fabric tooth to allow the widest variety of tools. The tooth helps promote surface adhesion for traditional brush painters while reducing sterile areas of the painting for airbrush artists. There is no smoother canvas you can buy.

Cut oversize so you can stretch it yourself

Each piece is cut approximately 6 inches larger than the listed size — about 3 inches of extra canvas on every side — giving you plenty of material to wrap around standard or gallery-depth stretcher bars and staple on the back.

Ideal for both airbrush and traditional brush

The surface weave of most canvases makes airbrushing difficult. Artists looking for a smooth airbrush-ready canvas have had no choice but to prepare their own canvas by applying and sanding multiple coats of gesso to an existing canvas — a process that takes days.

It comes unstretched, so you can choose your own stretcher — or even print your line art on it before painting!

A note on scratching: while this canvas is designed for use with the blade, improper, repeated, or excessive pressure with the blade can and will cause damage. Exercise caution. Being a non-absorbent surface, it is recommended that you wash the canvas with a gentle soap to remove any grease or oil from your fingers. Different paints have different adhesive characteristics, so test your paint first to determine its resilience to errant scratches.
